Plitvice Lakes are located on one of the most important roads in Croatia. In that Devil's Garden, nature gave man a completely different garden: the garden of the miraculous phenomena of karst hydrography. The gardener - karst - created a lot of beautiful and interesting things in Croatia, but - they say - he did it especially well here. Only in 1949. Plitvice Lakes have been given the permanent status of a national park. 1979 - UNESCO has included Plitvice Lakes in the World Natural Heritage List. The high forest takes on rainforest forms in some places, and the diversity of flora and fauna corresponds to this natural wealth. In addition to many species of birds and small game, the park has deer, bears, wolves, wild boars and wild cats, and trout in the waters. The total area of all lakes is approximately 2 km2. About three quarters of this area falls on the two largest lakes: Kozjak - 81.5 ha and Prošće - 68 ha. Here are the greatest depths: in Kozjak 46 m, and in Prošće 37 m. The lakes are interconnected by many larger and smaller waterfalls. The main amount of water in the lakes is brought by the Black and White rivers.
